Tailwind Energy - Oil & Gas

Who is Tailwind Energy:

Tailwind is an agile oil and gas venture, established in 2016 on foundational values of teamwork, trust and transparency.

Problem Statement:

Virtu was asked to benchmark Tailwind’s existing technical systems against peers and leading industry cloud solutions. Virtu found alternative systems that were cost effective, user friendly and quick to implement whilst significantly upgrading the company’s overall I.T. architecture, security and user interface. Using a light touch approach, our proposal was to technically transform Tailwind’s processes to become mobile, flexible and secure. This enabled the company to empower its users to adapt an evolution of the business by developing an IT infrastructure that supports rather than impede.
Our Solution:

An early deliverable was to migrate and consolidate hundreds of mailboxes to Office365, as well as provide a secure gateway solution protecting Tailwind’s employees from malware, spam and zero-day attacks. This consolidation brought immediate costs savings along with a safer working environment and the ability for users to access their emails remotely on multiple devices bringing obvious productivity gains.

The next transformation project was to create a contemporary I.T. environment. The goal was to create a collaborative working environment both in an office setting and virtually. We helped with the centralisation of 3 offices with technology being a key work stream. This move enabled Tailwind to save costs as they were able to consolidate their office footprint and provide staff with an open environment. Complimentary to this, our solution enabled a far easier and more secure ability to work from home thereby lowering the carbon footprint that was also an objective in the reduction of office space. This proved critical during the Covid-19 crisis as it meant that Tailwind were already set-up to carry on as normal with no threat to business continuity. The company operated without interruption across the business from operational execution or simple day-to-day tasks.

Further to an operational support ecosystem, we also identified the need to deal with multiple data legacy issues spread across different pre-existing platforms such as physical servers with limited back-up capability. Virtu identified a right-fit cloud-based solution that was flexible, secure and both GDPR compliant and oil and gas industry compliant. Once implemented, we migrated these disparate data pools via a series of secure steps, ensuring flagging for duplication, fragmentation and source into a consolidated single repository that allowed for easy enquiry and secure storage. The end result was the decommissioning of costly and outdated on-premises physical servers and a future ready secure cloud-based data store.
